Facebook Love from the Sewing Group

Last week I decided to post a few of my makes on a Facebook sewing group to see what people thought, I was overwhelmed with the response, as you can see from my screen grabs I have 1.1k Likes and 292+ comments.

Baby Cot Lavender Bags

As I made some baby bunting for my friends I also decided to try my hand at lavender bags that could be hung next to the cot or moses basket. I had a look online and came up with these designs.

Pom Pom Flowers

We inherited a vase from my husbands nan and it has been hidden in the front room fro a year and then we moved it into the spare room, it was the only thing that we didn't move out of the room while we were decorating, and as the room slowly took shape it stayed there and now actually looks really good. SO with that in mind and now wanting to keep it I pinned some pompom flowers, with that in mind, thats what I decided to do.

I used 5 garden canes that I painted green, made different types of flowers that have individual leaves. I am really chuffed with how they turned out.

Felt Minecraft Robot

I came across these on Pinterest and think they are uber cute.

 And this is mine.

Taxidermy Soft Elephant Head - Abby Glassenberg

I had seen a few of these, again on Pinterest, and thought it was different but cute. My friends and family thought it was scary, but out and about the past few months have shown that they are now being sold in shops, so they have come round now. I downloaded this pattern from Etsy and it came with the option of doing a giraffe as well, but I chose the elephant.

Here is mine

No Pattern Giraffe.

I knew I wanted a large giraffe stuffed free standing toy and liked these ones on Pinterest.

I had only made the flamingo and elephant head so far so just made loads of educated guesses of what i needed to do.

This was my attempt.

Let me point out the mistakes. I added the gusset to the head last minute, hence why the ears and horns are low. The neck was really too thin, so after stuffing the ears and horns and then trying for 30 minutes to turn it the right way round and busting the seam it worked. The neck also has a chop stick in it.

The good points are that the spots are the same both sides and she stands up.

Quilted Cushion

We brought a rocking chair for the room and as it is quite uncomfortable to sit on I decided to make my first cushion cover, that was my first time in patchwork and quilting! Again I used material that I had used in other projects. I was quite surprised with the end results, I think it looks really good.

Baby Bunting

Last week I had bunting coming out of my ears, I made 5 different lots as two friends are having babies, and I wanted some for my craft room, plus 2 for me. Again most of my ideas came from pinterest.

The idea behind this was that it used material that i had used in other projects and I could appliqué her name on later. However I planned for 9 triangles but it was too large so had to chop it down to 7. In-between each triangle is a stuffed felt heart.

This fabric was brought when i wasn't even looking for it and was for a friend who is expecting a boy, however i had already chosen the material for hers and was hoping that this would fit, it didn't so i made my own.

My last bunting was left over felt hearts i had from the bunting for the craft room, if I included the hearts it would have been to long, so I decided to use it in the baby room. I did buy to ric rac but ended up crocheting a chain.

Flossie the Flamingo

I came across Flossie the flamingo again on Pinterest and thought that it was a good reason to get some pink into the room. This is what it looked like on Pinterest., it was uploaded by sew magazine.

And this was my attempt.

I wadded the wings, and although I only had the pattern and no instructions I am quite pleased with how she turned out.

Nursery Giraffe Canvas's

You may have noticed that It has been a while since I last posted. All with good reason, I have been very busy in cooking a baby who is due tomorrow and I have been very busy in making lots of lovely things.

We know we are expecting a little girl but I am not a big fan PINK! So we have decided to go for a few colours with hints of pink. Pinterest has been a huge help in deciding what I would like the room to look like, the first ideas were grey, yellow and chevrons, but how boring for a little person to look at, so decided to go for an animal theme, this meant i can have different colours and some fun in sewing.

The first ideas were for a few pictures on the walls, I have made canvas's before for my own bedroom after seeing something I liked and refusing to pay for it, so I made it myself.

This is what it looked like on Pinterest.

And these are mine.

As Lilac is one of our colours on our stripy wall this is what we decided to go with. the material is material that has been used else where in other projects in the room so that it ties in nicely.

Yellow is another colour that is in the room. This one took a little longer to try and paint. I first had to find an image of a giraffe that would fit over my three 12inch square canvass's. My first photoshop attempt didn't work but my second fit better. I then had to use carbon paper under the photocopy to transfer the image, then a Sharpie, I only used one Sharpie even though I brought 3!
